Her last words to him were not encouragement, but instead an order. Bernavas knew he would not survive what he'd been told to do, but for Carrie, he would gladly do it anyway. She was safe, and this was her will.

She'd given him a good life, all these years. He couldn't help his looks or his skills and he hadn't ever complained.

He knew what his fate might've been, if she had not chosen him.
