Summary: A marvel of modern engineering.
Notes: 2022, for peasina
It is a bright, sunny day and I am out for a drive when I see a new store has opened up in a formerly empty building. At first I do not think I need any industrial supplies until I see they sell Automatic Clingfilm Machines.
Luckily, there are parking spots available and I take the closest one. Jetta follows me inside to see this advertised model of modern engineering.
However, I am not the only one in the store. Also looking at the machine, which stands three meters high and is already loaded with high-grade clingfilm, is Roy Orbison.
"Hello, Roy Orbison," I say as I look from him to the machine and back. "Did you come to see what an Automatic Clingfilm Machine looks like?"
"I did," Roy Orbison replies. "I haven't seen a salesclerk yet but I would like a demonstration. Perhaps you could demonstrate it on me?"
The machine has several buttons on it, but the start and stop buttons seem intuitive.
"Of course," I say. I gesture for him to climb on to the machine's platform and then carefully pull the end of the clingfilm from the roll. I tuck it between Roy Orbison's legs and the move to hit the green button. Slowly, the machine's platform begins to turn and it automatically begins to wrap the clingfilm around Roy Orbison, starting low and slowly working upwards.
Truly, it is a modern marvel. However, I am unsure how I feel about it. It lacks the intimacy of personally wrapping Roy Orbison in clingfilm, despite its efficiency. I wonder if Roy feels the same way and decide to ask him.
"What do you think?" I ask him.
"It's very efficient," he replies as the platform spins and the clingfilm moves up to wrap around his hips. It's very smooth and tight, lacking the wrinkles one might get from unpracticed manual clingfilm application.
Again, I am torn.
The machine continues on, wrapping upwards until Roy Orbison is wrapped up to his shoulders.
Only then does a salesclerk appear and quickly stops the machine, leaving Roy partially unwrapped.
I am ejected from the store, along with Jetta, and continue on my way.
