Lunalu couldn't help her excitement as she glanced around the hall. This would be her third book fair, thanks to everyone's assistance, and she was already set up. She had three different books to sell, in small piles, and little packages of memo sheets tied with ribbons.
Her blanket was neat, her sign was easy to read, she had her change- Lunalu was ready.
Beside her, her neighbor was still banging around and setting up.
"Do you need some help?" Lunalu asked. The book fair wasn't quite ready to open, so she had time.
Her neighbor turned and blinked and Lunalu gasped. The girl was adorable, wearing ruffles and lace, though the part that surprised Lunalu was that it was obvious her wings were real.
"If you have a moment," the girl said softly.
"I'm set up, um..."
"Mino. It's my first time at this book fair."
"Lunalu," Lunalu said. "This is my first time here and third overall."
Mino smiled and Lunalu quickly went to work. She could at least get Mino's blanket spread, while Mino fished in boxes.
"I brought some old books, for the first time in awhile, and some new ones," Mino said as she started piling them on the table. Lunalu's eyes went wide at the selection. There had to be forty different books and some of them looked to be-
"These are legendary holy grails of lost civilization," Lunalu exclaimed. She'd seen the titles mentioned, saw a doodle of one cover, and knew that these books existed, but now they were in front of her and Mino was simply blushing.
"I'm a little older than I look?" she offered.
"A primal beast." Lunalu surmised. The wings had been the giveaway, but it wasn't entirely a surprise. Not when other primal beasts like Nezha and Grimnir were always busy devouring whatever books they could get their hands on. Of course she'd eventually find one that shared her more niche interests.
"It's not too weird is it?"
"Not at all." Lunalu circled the table and carefully straightened all the piles and made sure Mino's signs were just right.
Finally, they had everything in place.
"We'll trade books, right? If it's quiet, we can trade sketches, too."
Lunalu's eyes went wide. "You'd trade with me?"
"Of course. It's good to add to my collection, especially books from friends."
"Oh..."
Lunalu didn't get a chance to admit this would be her first sketch trade. An announcement came over the hall's speaker that the book fair was about to open.
That meant she needed to be behind her own table.
She was ready. And she'd made a new friend, too.
