Every day, Diller Rojo thought about Mendel. He'd been called back to the PLANTs before the end of the first war, his commission unfulfilled. And he'd nearly returned, too; the digital paperwork had been on his tablet when the second war ground everything to a halt.

Someday he'd make it back to what remained of the colony. Someday he'd find what he was after, even if it was on his own without backing.

He'd dig until he found his buried treasure and then he'd send a message to that Junk Guild ship...

Until then, he'd plan and think and dream.
