"Zenon was right about it being here, but-" Monika frowned. There were trunks upon trunks of clothing stashed away in the storeroom, covered in varying depths of dust, and nothing seemed moth-eaten or otherwise damaged. It was all just old.
Quite fashionable, three hundred years ago, she reminded herself, when she'd had it made, but the styles had passed and the lacework needed bleaching to be anything other than the color it always turned, and...
"If the fabric isn't damaged, we can make adjustments," Diana said from the trunk she was investigating. "Even a few basic pieces would help out some of the newly arrived Otherworld Warriors."
"It's not doing any good stashed away here," Aisha added. Monika was sure she could already see Aisha making plans for the shirts she'd pulled from a pile.
"That's why Zenon told us to take it." Rocbouquet was more overseeing than helping, but Monika knew if she opened the right trunk, she'd get Rocbouquet's undivided attention. If those things still existed and were stashed away.
Monika had not done too much research into when exactly she'd historically wandered off from Loanne and greater history, nor was she willing to. She suspected that whenever she'd gone, she'd not taken anything that wasn't practical, and that left a few fancy dresses in Rocbouquet's preferred colors that could only be improved with some new hemlines and holes for black-feathered wings.
"Then we'll take all of it." Monika smiled at the other three. "I admit that there are a few things I wouldn't mind claiming for myself if they turn up, but the rest should be pulled out into the air and we'll just let everyone take what they want or need."
There was plenty of men's clothing as well, and pieces from an apparent era of odd style and odd tailoring that Monika wasn't able to place but would probably work to the benefit of some of the other races who'd joined their ranks.
Overall, it was a fantastic haul and Monika wished she'd thought of it sooner. Some adjusted hems, a bit of tailoring, some bleach for the lace and oh, whatever Aisha had in mind...
Monika smiled even wider.
"I'll have to talk to the tailors and haberdashers and a few other folks," she said as she started on a quick tally of trunks.
"Hmm?" Diana held up the most dreadfully overdone and frilly shirt that Monika had ever seen and Monika nearly lost her train of thought. Surely that wasn't the one from that terrible painting of Mikhail...
"Ah, um, for Vanguard's first fashion festival, of course."
"Shoes," Rocbouquet added. "Shoes."
"Accessories and jewelry, too." Aisha beamed.
"We'll have to start planning." Monika surveyed the storeroom again. They'd need time to sort everything, first, and get needed things handed out right away and...
"Should I get Albert to help carry all this somewhere?" Diana questioned. Thankfully she'd exchanged the one frilly shirt for another, though it wasn't much better.
"My dear Noel as well," Rocbouquet offered.
Aisha had no present brother to offer, but she did make a few suggestions, and Monika nodded.
She had planning to do. Planning and sewing and washing, but she certainly wasn't alone. She'd round up Katarina and Ellen and Sarah as well, and Liz and Polka and the Final Emperor who could do every little thing without comment...
Time to take the old and make it new-
-alongside friends old and new.
Though Monika really did need to make sure that terrible frilly shirt became only rags.
Just in case.
