Jarratt said a quick prayer to the Lifegod and the three queens before turning back to his patient. Even without seeing the wound, he knew it was bad. Trained half as a mage and half as a practical healer, Jarratt still couldn't quite find his confidence before pulling away the man's pants to see the source of the growing amount of blood decorating his residence.

"Spring trap," the man gasped, clenching his fists. "Lulla..."

"I'm right here, Ranna," Lulla replied, moving to leave her spot at the door but Jarratt motioned for her to be still.

With a wet rag, Jarratt managed to clear enough blood to see what he was dealing with. Deep, yes, and sure to leave a scar even with as much magic as could be poured into it.

Healing spells were easy, but tiring. Lulla had slid down to sit on the floor by the time Jarratt had finished chanting and stitching, neat little stitches taught to him by the last doctor the village had been lucky enough to have.

Finally, with the wound closed and the blood cleared enough that he could see exactly what he was dealing with, Jarratt sighed. Yes, it would scar, and likely Ranna would limp for life, potentially a burden to his twin sister.

There were only so many spells, so many herbs, so many anythings to keep the pain away. Unconsciousness, a much easier spell, had been the first thing to Jarratt's mouth.

"Lulla, he'll need to stay here for awhile," Jarratt said, finally walking over and offering the woman a nearly-clean hand.

"I know," Lulla replied. "You'll take good care of him."

"I will," Jarratt said. "I'll keep him asleep while he heals a bit more. Then we'll see..."

"Do you need any help?" Lulla asked suddenly, grabbing Jarratt's hands and looking up with large, watery eyes.

"No," he replied, slowly pulling his hands from hers. "You should rest too. I have my apprentices should I need anything. I can stir one from sleep to clean up."

"And payment..."

"Something for another day," Jarratt said, walking over to open the door. As much as he normally wouldn't mind letting her stay, he was tired as well and usually anyone trying to help him made twice the work. He would wake his apprentices and let them clean and watch over Ranna.

And he would get what he'd been searching for, a thorough examination of sleep.
